Official dignitaries at the ceremony included, on the Chinese side, such figures as General Lung Yun, Governor of Yunnan Province, Gen. Wang Yu-cho, General Ho Ying-Chin, and Commissioner Miao Yun-tai. On the American side was Major General Gilbert Xavier Cheves, Brigadier General Lewis A. Pick, Major General Robert B. McClure, Brig. Gen. Henry A. Barber, Brig. Gen Douglas L. Weart, Brig. Gen. Edgar E. Glenn, along with civilians like the American opera star Lily Pons and her husband Andre Kostelanetz.
The "Burma Road" was also often known as the "Stilwell Road," as it is in Chinese on the back of the stage, written “Shediwei Gonglu” (史迪威公路).
