Photograph of B-25C in flight in the CBI, tail number 130367 (serial number 41-30367). Notice the machine gun (.50 cal.) barrel sticking out of the belly of '367.' This 491st Bomb Squadron aircraft was damaged by flak on 20 Dec 1943 and the crew bailed out. 2nd Lt. Charles H. Redd, navigator, became a POW. He survived and returned to the USA in Sep/Oct 1945.
The early B25Cs had an upper and a lower turret for defense and no tail mounted guns. Most of the 341st Bomb Group B-25Cs had their lower turrets removed and the hole covered over as soon as they arrived in India. Since the gunners tended to get quickly disoriented and unable to man the weapon, the weapon was basically useless and the weight was better utilized by fuel or bombs. Later 'C' models were manufactured with the lower turret and with side (waist) guns, instead.
