DOUGLAS J. RUNK, 86, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008. A long-time resident of Houston, he was born June 29, 1921 in Port Lavaca, Texas, to Hans and Nell Runk. He proudly served his country in the China, Burma, and India Theater. On returning from World War II, Douglas entered the funeral business and retired from Niday Funeral Home. He was Past National Commander of the China, Burma, and India Association, and proudly folded the American Flag for many deceased members of this association. Douglas is Past Exalted Ruler of Houston Elks Lodge BPOE 151, Past Vice President of the South East Texas Funeral Directors Association, member of the Harrisburg Rotary, Gus Brandt Masonic Lodge no. 1296, Quartermaster VFW Post 4344, and member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Douglas will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Frances; nephews, Lance Froelich and wife, Barbara, Mark Froelich and niece Lauren Baird and husband, Mark. Honorary pallbearers are members of the China, Burma, and India Association.

France Louise Hayes Runk went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2018. She was born to Dave and Pearl Hayes in Manning, Texas.

Frances left the community of Manning and Lufkin, Texas for Houston where
she became a longtime resident. Frances will be long remembered as a lovely, gracious lady enjoying life to the fullest….. with her hair always up high on her head, not driving until her later years (and very little then), and perfectly dressed.

The Runk home was a welcoming home to anyone at all times especially during the Holidays and Special occasions, a home filed with good food, faith, spirit of joy and laughter.

Frances was a longtime member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church. For the last ten years she continued her worship at Clarewood House Church Service. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1944. Frances continued Insurance designations in 1945 she was the founding member of The Insurance Women of Houston, The Insurance Women of Houston president from 1950-1951, Outstanding Member of Insurance Women of Houston 1953, National Association of Insurance Women president 1957-1958, Chaired and Served all committees of the Insurance Women of Houston and National Association of Insurance Women. After 60 years in the business world she retired from the insurance industry. Frances taught english to Catholic Priest when they arrived from Mexico – she spoke NO Spanish. She supported China, Burma and India Association Trinity Pines in Trinity, TX a tall cross stands in honor of Frances and Douglas Runk.

Frances is survived by three sisters, Bobby Story, Joreen Bozeman, Mary Still; one brother, David Hayes; a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by parents, Dave and Pearl Hayes; stepmother, Zula Hayes; husband, Douglas J. Runk of 58 years; two sisters; three brothers.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 24, 2018 at 12:30 at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Clarewood House, 7400 Clarewood Drive, Houston TX.

Frances loved Clarewood House and the family wishes to give their thanks for the devotion and service they extended to Frances.
