Upon seeing this image in 2008, Hal responded: "This picture is a total surprise. The camera is a Wahl single system sound camera that arrived in China late in 1944. The sound amplifier is not along side it, so I assume I was just shooting some test footage. The camera was too heavy for normal newsreel shooting. I have no idea where the picture was taken, but my guess is that is was somewhere near our Headquarters in Kunming."
